The Medical School Interview

The medical school interview is the most important part of the application process. The interview will either be traditional or the multiple mini-interview (MMI) format. The best way to ensure success is to understand the format and to practise.

Traditional
MMI
  • Same interviewers throughout
  • 2-4 interviewers across a table
  • Usually 15-30 minutes
  • Interviewers take turns asking you questions
  • Timing is up to the interviewers and they may focus on one question more than another
  • Usually 6-10 mini-interview stations
  • Each station has 1-2 interviewers
  • Each station lasts 5-7 minutes
  • The entire process can last up to 2 hours
  • Each station focusses on a different topic
  • A bell/buzzer will sound when you must move to the next station
